We’d like to welcome Georgina, and thank her for taking the time to share a little bit about herself and her travel experience with us!
1. Thank for you being a part of Feature Friday. Can you tell us your name and a little bit about yourself?
Hey! My name is Georgina and I run travel blog –www.georginadoes.co.uk. I’ve been doing that for 5 years along with my full time job in Central London! I’d love to take the jump to blog full time one day soon!
2. What country do you call home?
England!
3. Which city{s}/country{s} did you recently travel to?
I have just returned home after my first budget backpacking style tip to Vietnam.
4. How long was the journey?
I got a direct flight to Ho Chi Mihn City and it was 13 hours.
5. Why did you travel to Vietnam?
I have fallen in love with South East Asia over the past couple of years and after really enjoyed my time in Thailand, I thought Vietnam would also be a good idea.
6. What native dish was your favorite to eat?
Of course there was lots of Pho, for breakfast lunch and dinner but the dish that I really enjoyed was called Cao Lau and it can only be found in Hoi An. With thick chewy noodles and slices of pork, it was absolutely delicious.
7. What was the most unique thing you ate?
I tried something called Che which I saw a lot of people eating on the street. Served in a plastic cup, I literally had no idea what was in it. There was white mush and cubes of black jelly. Apparently it is a dessert soup but I didn’t really enjoy it.
8. What was your most unique mode of transportation?
I think it has to the tiny, circular bamboo boats that we went along a coconut plantation in. Incredible.
9. What was the weather like during your trip?
It changed at we traveled up Vietnam. Very hot in the south and much more bearable in the north.
10. Where was your favorite place to go in Vietnam? Why?
I fell in love with Hanoi. It was a bustling city but with an old quarter. I just loved being there.
11. What was the funniest thing that happened to you on this trip?
I went on the trip with a guy who was only a family friend, not my boyfriend although everyone who saw up was convinced we were together. We sat separate on one of the tour busses and the guide asked me friend if he had done something bad to upset me!
12. Did you learn anything during this trip?
I learnt that backpacking in Asia really isn’t as hard as I though it was going to be.
13. What was the best part about your trip?
Falling in love with a brand new country! The food was pretty good as well.
14. What was the most challenging part about your trip?
The heat was a little hard to handle on some of the days.
15. What is the favorite picture you took during your trip?
I think it has to be this one of Nathan and I eating lunch on a tiny table surrounded by plastic stools. I just think it is hilarious.
16. How does Vietnam compare to your home country, England? Were your expectations met, or did they differ completely?
I did a ridiculous amount of research before the trip as it was my first hostel trip so I knew exactly what to expect. The one thing I didn’t expect was juts how much I was going to love it.
17. If you were to go to this city/country again, what would you do differently?
I’d stay much longer!
18. If someone else was to go to this city/country, what advice or tips would you give them?
Make sure you travel the country and don’t just stay in one spot – there is so much to see.
19. Do you have any more travel plans lined up? Where to next?
Since coming back from Vietnam, I’ve just spent a week in Spain.
Thank you Georgina for being a guest on Feature Friday! I enjoyed reading about your time in Vietnam. I have yet to visit any Asian country, but I would love to visit one soon. I was actually talking to one our family friends who are from Malaysia, asking when they’d be taking me when they visit next!
Have any of you been to Vietnam? What was your favorite part of your trip? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear from you!
