It’s fun to travel in groups, and it’s fun to travel solo. For me, I find it best to travel with one-two people, as long as I’m travelling with the right person{s}. Travelling with another person is such a tricky business. It can literally make or break relationships of any kind. Just because we may be best friends, doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll be my perfect travel partner. The perfect travel partner is found through trial and error, and when you finally get it right, it’s truly an amazing experience!
To My Perfect Travel Partner{s},
Life is full of things we have no control over, and sometimes we can’t control who we travel with. But when we do have that choice, I’m picking you…over and over again. Not only for the reason that I like you, but for so many more. Whether it’s a day trip to the local park or an adventure across the world, you’re my go-to travel partner.
You’re fine with winging it. Some things are planned in advance, and that’s great. We’re both on the same page, and we know what’s going on. Other times though, we let the day unfold before us, being as indecisive as the wind. You know when I say ‘I honestly don’t care what we do’, I mean ‘I honestly don’t care what we do’. There is no ulterior motive. There is no secret preference. What I say, is what I mean.
You understand that rest days are essential. I easily forget how draining a trip can be when filling up the day with activities from sun up to sun down. Sometimes I can push myself to the end of the trip, but other times a day of doing completely nothing is necessary.
You get me. You understand that I’m an introvert, and I need my space. It doesn’t mean I’m mad at you. It doesn’t mean I don’t want to hang out with you. It just means that I need time to recharge, and you totally get that. You don’t bombard me with questions, or stay breathing down my neck. You understand my insecurities, and I feel relaxed when I’m with you.
We just fall into a natural rhythm. You don’t complain about my need to wake up early and get the day started. My need to want to get everything in. Instead, you embrace the day ahead of us, the adventures that await us, and the inevitable awkward moments that befall us.
So to my perfect travel partner: I am grateful for all the memories we share, and the new ones we are going to create. Words cannot express how thankful I am to have you in my life. I don’t thank you enough, but please know, I wouldn’t want to travel the world with anyone except you!
Love always, Larissa
SO TRUE! My boyfriend is the best travel partner because we can relax and neither of us feel guilty because the other wants to go out when we’re tired. Love love love this!
Thank you so much! I’m happy to hear that you and your boyfriend get along well as travel partners. It’s always the best when you realize that someone you really like can double as your travel partner!
Great letter. It is so hard for find people is good to travel with. Even good friends might not be good travel partners. I found a friend that I can travel with and we do it as often as we can
Thank you! And yes, I agree. I just recently found out that I cannot travel with my sister, unless we are planning to go to an all-inclusive resort!
I’m not a travel person but I would love to see a few places I have on my bucket list. I want to travel with my family but I think the youngest child will not be able to handle it. She has a hard time traveling with me across town. I’m hoping she will grow out of it.
I think it’s great you want to travel with your family! I just recently travelled with my sister, and I came to the conclusion we are not great travel partners. Hopefully both of our family members can grow out of it!
So true. Thankfully my husband is the best travel partner ever! We get along better when we travel than when we stay at home 😉
Haha that’s so funny!! I hope I’m able to find someone like that one day 🙂
My travel partners have always been my kids – best memories ever!
I love that! I pray when I get to that stage of my life, my kids will be a pleasure to travel with 🙂
makes a trip so much better when you have the right person with you
That it truly does!
This is so true. Traveling with the wrong people can literally turn a dream into a nightmare. I’m lucky to have my bestie and boyfriend as perfect alternating travel companions. I am traveling next week with my mom and sister…pray for me lol
Haha sending prayers your way! I recently found out, my sister and I are not travel compatible, unless you’re travelling to an all-inclusive resort! I hope your trip is amazing!!
So important to have someone that you can see the world with, without pressure! I’m lucky that my husband is an amazing travel buddy. We recently flew to Africa together; he’d made the long trip before and I hadn’t… and he made it so much easier for me to get through the long flights!
This makes me so happy to hear! I’m glad your perfect travel partner is also your lifelong partner in life. What could be better than that?! 🙂
So true! The right partner makes traveling so much more fun. I can’t imagine not enjoying travel when I have my life partner with me, he is the best, great article!
Thank you Corey! I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who recognizes the importance of finding the right travel partner for oneself. And I’m beyond happy to hear that your travel partner is also your life partner!
Finding the perfect travel partner is very important. My husband and I have become the perfect travel partners. I’m a go-go person on vacation and he likes to just relax. So I always plan vacations that are a mix of both and we both enjoy our time together.
That sounds like a great compromise, and that you two complement each other well!
This is amazing! ❤️ Such a fun read, something I can totally relate to! Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for taking the time to read 🙂
Could not agree more! I love to travel with my husband or a friend but large groups just kill it!
I find travelling with large groups can be stressful bc in my case, I’m worried about if everyone is having a good time, and it’s impossible for everyone to want to do the same thing at the same time. So now I just try to avoid taking on that unnecessary stress!
This is so beautiful! I love to travel and wish we could do it more!
Thank you! And I hope one day, you will be able to travel as much as you’d like!
Larissa-you of all people will appreciate this video. It screams your name. Be sure to watch to the end. I love you sweet girl & I totally understand your letter. Madison & Olivia Paige are my “go to” travel partners! We just get each other! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J55NOROVBgI
At first I was very confused because we call my mom, Mama J too! No wonder you two get along so well 🙂 Anyways, I love seeing the travel adventures you three go on…it always seems like such a blast! And you three are hilarious! Maybe one day you’ll let me tag along 🙂 As for this video, I absolutely loved it, and by the end I was crying. Thank you for sharing this with me <3
It is quite challenging to find a perfect travel partner! I consider myself to be among the few lucky ones!
It really is! There are people who you can tolerate, but it’s a blessing when you find someone who allows you to fully enjoy the experience! I’m one of the lucky ones who has found a few travel partners who allow me to do just that!
I totally agree! Friendship doesn’t necessarily translate to travel partner!
Neither does family! I had to learn that the hard way, for both!
This is sooooo true. It isn’t always easy to find good people to travel with and finding them is amazing!!
Yes! It’s like hitting the jackpot! 🙂
A perfect trip with a perfect partner is a perfect thing
Sounds about right! 🙂
